Give Charles Hamilton a Break

Charles Hamilton has been been the punching bag1 for the blogosphere for quite some time. Some of it he deserves for a how he carries himself on the web and for possibly stealing a beat or two2 and the rest is just hate. But anyway, in the web’s most recent lash of its favorite whipping post, videos and comments are surfacing of CH getting hit in the face by his assistant. This came during a rap battle in which Charles “went there”. I’m reading crazy comments on Twitter in regard to the situation, but does anyone else see this situation as majorly messed up?
Charles Hamilton comes off as a complete jerk 85% of the time I’ve seen footage of him. He insulted numerous rap cats for no reason and publicly hits on spoken-for women. He stole a guys beat, then lied to the guy to his face about…stealing the beat. Had he gotten rocked for any one of these situations, I wouldn’t have batted an eyelash. That’s a natural consequence of stepping out of line.
That brings us to this point. He was late and inconvenienced his assistant, then in celebrity fashion, arrogantly made light of it. Assistant gets mad, writes about it and decides to spit her “16″ on camera to a guy who likes to have rap tiffs. He does what he knows how to do and “goes in” and Bou Yah! (c) Stu Scott, we get the slowmo footage of the mouthpiece jiggling and the spit flying out.
NOOOOOO! This is not okay and its really not even funny. Lets not make a habit of condoning woman-to-man violence. Even though dude is a douche every other day of the year, he showed some real character by not retaliating and that’s what we tell our young men, right? Not to hit girls under any circumstances? Lets not be hypocrites and crucify this man for taking the high road, because after all, had he choked her out, Chris Brown would be off the hook and CH would be our new poster boy for domestic abuse. Give Charles Hamilton a break. He’s gonna have tough enough time explaining why the Pink Panther is humping his forearm.
